The Big Apple is known for its great diversity of people. Because so many cultures coexist within the same location, New York City brings its citizens together through music festivals. New York is the cornerstone of many mainstream and alternative music movements. The many music festivals that take place within the city provide its inhabitants an opportunity to enjoy a multitude of music genres and gain more respect for their fellow city-dwellers.

NYC’s international music festivals are some of the largest music events in the country. From across the globe, both signed and unsigned performers come to these music festivals to compete for awards and recognition. Participants can enjoy dozen of genres of music including Rock, Hip-Hop, R&B, Experimental, Rap and many more. Because these music festivals provide an outlet for new artists in the industry, this production has received praise from MTV, Access Hollywood, Newsday and many other members of the media. NYC’s international music festivals have become so popular that many events are also held in Las Vegas. Each music festival is just as beneficial for artists as they are for the audience. In fact, these events begin with a party for bands and record company executives to network. The following 4 to 11 days are composed of live music and seminars to teach performers the ins and outs of the music industry. Here people can enjoy great music while artists develop their skills and advance their careers.

CMJ Music Fest is another festival NYC has to offer. College Music Journal’s annual music festivals involve over 1,000 bands that entertain in scattered clubs throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. CMJ Music Fest has been a way for new artists to break into the music industry for over 27 years. Some popular artists that have performed in this event include the Black Eyed Peas, Beastie Boys, Cheap Trick, Eminem, Everclear, The Killers, Korn, and dozens of others.

Residents also enjoy weekly music festivals. For example, Central Park Summerstage hosts small, outdoor music festivals in Central Park to promote a greater appreciation for music of all cultures. Free of charge, this inclusive atmosphere invites all groups of people to enjoy live music in addition to the outdoors. Zap Mama, a vocal group inspired by Zaire’s pygmy tribes, in an excellent representation of the diverse groups featured in this program.

The abundance of music festivals in NYC makes this a pivotal location for emerging artists. With the variety of local and international festivals available, residents can gain a deeper respect for other cultures through their music.
